안녕하세요, 티아라 Tiara입니다. 저는 인도네시아어 기초를 배운 지 두 달 차에 접어드는 인도네시아어 신입생인데요. 현지에서 인도네시아 선생님께 BIPA(외국인을 위한 인도네시아어 교육 프로그램)을 배우면서 흥미와 매력을 느껴 한국에서도 독학하고 있어요.
인도네시아어는 간단한 규칙만 알고나면 누구나 정말 쉽게 배우고 말할 수 있는 언어이지만(영어보다 더 쉬워요!), 한국에서는 독학하기에 있어 인니어 기초 학습자료에 대한 정보가 많지 않은 한계점이 있었습니다. 어학원도 비교적 많이 없고, 도서관에 가 봐도 인도네시아책이 생각보다 많지 않았습니다. 그래서! 제가 BIPA로 인도네시아 언어 공부를 하면서 재밌게 배운 것들을 공유하며 정리하고 싶어서 'wkwk Indonesia(ㅋㅋ 인도네시아)'를 만들었습니다. 저와 함께 인도네시아와 인도네시아언어의 매력들을 재밌게 알아가시길 바래요~! Hello! I'm Tiara, the blogger 'wkwk Indonesia(lol Indonesian)'. I' m a beginner in Indonesian and it's been about two months since I started learning through the BIPA program. While studying with a local Indonesian teacher I quickly became fascinated by the language and even after returning to Korea, I continue to learn by myself.
Indonesian is actually a language that anyone can pick up easily with just a few simple rules (I think Indonesian is easier than English!). But I noticed there’s a real lack of self-study resources for Indonesian learners in Korea. There aren’t many language schools that offer Indonesian, and even when I went to the library, I found that there were fewer Indonesian books than I expected. That’s why I made blog 'wkwk Indonesia(lol Indonesian)'! I share all the fun and interesting things I’ve learned from BIPA, and hopefully make learning Indonesian more enjoyable for others too. 우선, 오늘은 먼저 인도네시아어 BIPA 기초와 인니어 독학 방법에 대해 소개해드릴게요~! 인도네시아어는 미국식 영어와 같은 '알파벳 ABC' 문자를 사용합니다. 덕분에 다른 언어들에 비해 배우기가 보다 쉬워요, 발음도 철자와 거의 일치해서 알파벳 그대로를 한글 발음처럼 읽으시면 되세요. (알파벳에 따른 발음은 다음 포스트에서 자세하게 알려드릴게요~)
Today, I’d like to introduce the basics of Indonesian(BIPA) and how to self-study Indonesian! Indonesian uses the same 'Alphabet(ABC)' as American language, which makes it much easier to learn compared to other languages. The pronunciation also closely matches the spelling, so you can simply read the letters as they sound—just like reading them in Korean! (I’ll explain the exact pronunciation of each letter in the next post, so stay tuned~!)
먼저 맛보기로 인니어를 조금만 알려드리면 아침 인사는 Selamat(Good) + pagi(morning)이에요. 여기서 'Selamat'은 '평안한', '행복한', '축하'라는 뜻을 가지고 있어요. 아침 인사를 할 때, "'좋은' 아침이야~"라고 하는 것과 비슷하죠. 또한 "감사합니다"는 Terima kasih이에요. Terima(받다) + Kasih(사랑, 호의). 즉, 사랑을 받을 때 하는 말 = '감사합니다'! 인도네시아어 참 쉽고 재밌죠?!
Here’s a little taste of Indonesian to get you started! To say "Good morning” you’d say "Selamat pagi". Selamat can mean 'peaceful', 'happy' or even 'congratulatory', and pagi means 'morning'. So it’s kind of like saying, “Have a peaceful morning!”
Another super useful phrase is “Thank you” which in Indonesian is "Terima kasih". Terima means “to receive,” and kasih means 'love' or 'kindness'. So, when you say Terima kasih, you’re literally saying “I receive your kindness.” How lovely is that? See? Indonesian isn’t so hard after all, right?!

If you're interested in learning Indonesian, there's a special program just for foreigners "BIPA". It’s organized by the Indonesian Embassy and offers a structured curriculum that takes you from beginner to advanced levels (BIPA1 through 7). The program helps you build skills in all four areas(reading, writing, listening, and speaking), so you can learn the language in a well-rounded and effective way.

기본적인 요구와 욕구를 표현할 수 있다.
🔹 Level 3 – Menengah 1 (중급 1 / B1)
의견 말하기, 경험 설명, 이유 설명 등의 중급 표현.
짧은 뉴스 기사, 광고, 안내문 등 실용 텍스트를 읽고 이해할 수 있다.
일상문화에 대해 설명할 수 있다.
🔹 Level 4 – Menengah 2 (중급 2 / B2)
다양한 주제(문화, 교육, 환경 등)에 대한 토론 가능.
일상회화뿐만 아니라 공식적인 상황에서도 대화 가능.
짧은 에세이나 리포트를 작성할 수 있음.

추상적이고 복잡한 주제에 대해 이해하고 논의 가능.
공식 문서, 신문, 사설 등의 자료를 이해, 요약 가능.

인도네시아어 BIPA교육 이외에도 다양한 온라인사이트와 어플을 통해서 인니어를 무료로 독학하실 수 있어요. 저는 한국어 기사를 인도네시아언어로 번역해서(챗 GPT) 자습하고 있는데요. 반대로 인도네시아 뉴스 사이트(BBC INDONESIA)를 통해 인도네시아뉴스 기사를 한국어로 번역하여 리딩 연습을 하는 것도 도움이 됩니다.
In addition to the BIPA program, there are many online platforms and apps where you can study Indonesian for free.
Personally, I teach myself by translating Korean news articles into Indonesian with the help of ChatGPT. I think it is also helpful to translate articles from Indonesian news sites such as BBC Indonesia into Korean.
무료 학습 어플 '듀오링고'와 전세계 언어교류 어플 '헬로우톡'으로도 매일 짧은 시간 동안 간편하게 공부할 수 있는데요. 듀오링고는 알고있는 단어들을 복습하는 용도로 활용하고 있어요. 헬로우톡은 아직 써보지 않았지만, 실제로 써본 헬로우톡 후기들을 보면 현지인 친구들을 사귀기에 좋은 것 같습니다.
You can also study Indonesian in a simple and convenient way every day using free apps like Duolingo and HelloTalk. I personally use Duolingo to review words I already know. I haven’t tried HelloTalk yet, but based on user reviews, it seems like a great app for making local friends and practicing with native speakers.
